Grand Youth Program

At the Grand Theatre, we pride ourselves on being a theatre for the community. With professional-quality productions showcasing local talent, educational outreach programs and community partnerships, there is truly something for everyone.

We’d love to work with you to ensure that your students have a chance to witness and participate in the great theatre that is happening right here in Salt Lake City!

Grand Youth provides exciting opportunities available to students and educators, such as:

  • Free tickets for students and educators to exclusive student matinees.
  • Post-performance talks with our director, actors, technicians or administration.
  • Tour of the theatre and facilities.
  • In-class performances and Q&As with Grand Theatre professionals.
  • Two-week Theatre Summer Camp for 7 – 12 grade students.
  • Afterschool Theatre programs throughout the year

Grand Youth Theatre Summer Camp

Enroll in the Grand Youth summer theatre camps, where participants will build skills, improve confidence, and make new friends, all while having a blast exploring, learning and celebrating through theatre! Camps will include fun and exciting activities for students of all theatrical backgrounds and skill levels (no prior training required). Camp instruction will be provided by professionals with performance experience in live theatre, TV and film.

Speciality Camps 

Ages vary by Camp.

These camps let you explore specific theatrical skills and topics in a fun and engaging 4 -day session.

  • June 10-13 from 9:30-11:30 AM
    • Improv Camp (Age 6-18) –  Explore the art of improv in this dynamic class.
    • Musical Theatre Dance (Age 6-18) – Gives students experience in musical theatre dance technique, emphasizing locomotor skills and movement expression.
    • Stage Combat (Age 12-18) – This summer camp provides opportunities to explore and develop important skills in stage combat.
    • Klouns Camp (Age 6-18) – In this innovative camp that focuses on acting fundamentals students will learn to connect with peers, take risks, build emotional intelligence, and discover joy through play and the absurd.

Performance Camps 

Ages 6-18

Through engaging activities centered around actual fun that includes singing, music, dance, stage movement, and creating characters, students will grow in confidence exploring new fundamentals or expanding on their preexisting knowledge of musical theatre. Performance camps will end with a student performance on Thursday evening of each week.

Each camp has both a morning (9:30 – 11:30 AM) and afternoon (12:00 – 2:00 PM) session – please sign up for only one session.

  • June 24-27 (Morning & Afternoon Sessions)
  • July 8-11 (Morning & Afternoon Sessions)
  • July 15-18 (Morning & Afternoon Sessions)

Technical Camp 

Ages 15-18

Participants interested in technical theatre will explore Lighting Design, Sound Design and Engineering, Costume Design, Set Design, Scenic Painting, and Stage Management. Participants will apply these skills while managing the technical aspects of a student performance during the evening of Thursday, July 18.

The technical camp will be held over two weeks (M-TH each week) from 12:00 – 2:00 PM.

Grand Youth After School Theatre Program

The Grand Youth After School Theatre Program sends theatre instructors and SLCC students into local schools and organizations to provide free engaging performing arts workshops as part of existing after school programs. Participating students receive instruction on a variety of theatrical processes, including performing, playwriting, and designing, while working with instructors and peers to create their own short plays. Workshops are made to be accessible to students at all theatrical experience levels, and promise to provide fun and creative learning opportunities. The program culminates in a Student Performance Showcase at the SLCC Grand Theatre, allowing participants to perform the plays they’ve created with friends and family.
